BMKG smoke direction (filled wedge) Open-Meteo smoke direction Fire seen, last 12 h 12 to 48 h ago Older
Main roads: OpenStreetMap contributors. Wind: BMKG (3-hourly, for Mojolangu) and Open-Meteo (hourly model, at the landfill), fetched live when the page opens. Air layer and rain chance: Open-Meteo. Fire detections: NASA FIRMS (VIIRS and MODIS satellites), last 5 days, also fetched live; hover a dot for details. Station positions are approximate.
Satellite fire detections
Satellites pass a few times a day, mostly around 01:00-02:00 and 12:30-15:45 WIB. A cool, wetted, smouldering fire can go undetected, so no detection does not prove the fire is out.

Wind, air layer and rain by slot
| Time WIB | BMKG | Open-Meteo | Air layer | Rain |
|---|
Trapped under 200 m Shallow 200 to 800 m Mixing 800 m and up
Air layer is the model's boundary layer height: how deep the air is that smoke can mix into. Under 200 m, smoke stays near the ground and builds up; that is the night inversion. Rain washes particles out of the air.
Typical October pattern
| Hours WIB | Usual wind | Smoke here |
|---|---|---|
| 06-09 | S, light, turning SE | Mostly away |
| 09-16 | SE to E, 10-20 km/h | Away: plume goes north-west |
| 16-18 | S, slowing | Turning toward here |
| 18-06 | SW to W, about 4 km/h | Often toward here, trapped low |
From 10 years of October reanalysis (ERA5-Land, 2015-2025): night winds come from WSW, SW or W in about 45% of hours; daytime winds from S, SSE or SE. A coarse model, not a BMKG station record.
Wedges are drawn 14 km long and 30 deg wide. Real plumes bend with terrain and spread at low wind. Wind matters only while the fire still smoulders. This page is information, not medical advice.
